Korea - Land of the Morning Calm - Land of Miracle on Han River .....

Korea for many years was an enigma and one of the unexplored 'gems' of  Asia.  From its struggle for survival to becoming the 'Miracle on Han River', Korea continues to preserve its character and cultural heritage.

Korea is one of the largest economies in Asia.  It is one of the four Asian tigers.  It is a leader in advanced technologies and innovation, e-ready infrastruture, and digital this and that.

This small country is situated with the Yellow Sea to the west, East Sea (Sea of Japan), and the Korea Strait and East China Sea to the south.   Korea is abundant in enchanting countrysides, mountainous terrain, and a misty and romantic rainy season.  There are over 3,000 islands in the west and south.  JeJu-Do is the largest island.  The extinct volcano, Hallasan reaches 6,398 feet in altitude.

There are over 48 million proud, spontaneous and friendly people in Korea.  It is one of the most densely populated countries in the world.  Christianity and Buddhism are predominant.  70% of the population lives in urban areas with 25% in the capital of Seoul.

Traditional Korean meals have many 'Banchan' side dishes.  KimChi is served at every meal.   Korean traditional music resembles the traditional music of China and Japan.  There are drum, mask and solo improvisational  traditonal dances.

There is the Korean phonetic alphabet, Hangul that is very different from the way western alphabets form words.  Jikji is the earliest known book printed with movable metal type in 1377.  Hanji is a form of paper that can last for over 1,000 years.

Korea acquired the nickname of the 'Hermit Kingdom' after it closed its borders to all foreigners in the late 19th century. But today,  it is a very modern and prosperous nation of  proud and polite people.  South Korea is one of the most open and rapidly changing societies in Asia.

South Korea     is truly the Land of the Morning Calm, and the Land of a Miracle on the Han River.
